R. Kelly

Was inspired to pursue a career in singing by his high school music teacher. Made his recording debut with 1992's Born into the '90s, released under the name R. Kelly and Public Announcement. Solo debut came the following year with the multi-platinum 12 Play, which featured signature single "Bump & Grind." Collaborated with rapper Jay-Z on two albums, The Best of Both Worlds (2002) and Unfinished Business (2004). Has continued to tour and record while fighting a series of legal battles… Show more since 2002, including charges that involve child pornography. Began the multi-part "hip-hopera" "Trapped in the Closet" with 2005 album TP-3: Reloaded ; later chapters of the popular saga were released on DVD and aired on the Independent Film Channel.
