One of the post-grunge era's most straightforward, impassioned groups, Oklahoma City's the Nixons were founded by singer/guitarist Zac Maloy, guitarist Jesse Davis, bassist Ricky Brooks, and drummer Tye Robinson. The group released their debut EP Six in 1992 on Dragon Street Records and added new drummer John Humphrey before releasing Halo two years later on the Rainmaker label. This album features several songs that also turned up on their major-label debut Foma, which came out in 1995 on MCA Records. Foma spawned the radio hit "Sister" and the group capitalized on their success with nonstop touring, including dates with Soul Asylum. Two years later, the group replaced Brooks with Ricky Wolking and released their self-titled album. Though The Nixons failed to match the returns of their debut and the band subsequently left MCA, their consistent gigging ensured a strong cult audience for 1999's Scrapbook EP, which saw the band return to Rainmaker, and their fourth album The Latest Thing, which was released by Koch in early 2000. ~ Heather Phares, All Music Guide
