Christopher Denny

Christopher Denny's music draws heavily from both gospel and country influences, fitting for an artist whose first musical experiences took place in his local church. The singer/songwriter, whose ethereal voice bears a resemblance to Antony of Antony and the Johnsons (and, to a lesser degree, Jeff Buckley), first picked up a guitar at the age of 14 and began writing songs soon after. A visit to his great-uncle's house led to the discovery of a Lefty Frizzell and Hank Thompson vinyl collection, which had a deep impact on the young musician. With the blessing and gift of a guitar from his grandfather, also a musician, Denny embarked on his own musical career. It would get off to a rocky start -- a week into recording his debut album with his band the Old Soles, Denny clashed with his producers and decided to leave them (and his recording fund) behind. Returning to his hometown of Little Rock, AR, Denny contacted Jason Weinheimer, who agreed to let Denny produce the album in his studio (Weinheimer acted as engineer).
