Adam Sandler was born in Brooklyn, New York on September 9, 1966, and was brought up in a Jewish family. He went to Manchester Central High School in Manchester, NH, where he discovered his comedic proclivities. He continued to hone his talents at New York University, playing in nightclubs and appearing in small television parts. Comedian Dennis Miller caught one of his routines, and recommended him to Lorne Michaels, producer of Saturday Night Live. Sandler was hired as a writer in 1990, and graduated to the cast the next year. He created memorable characters such as Opera Man, and "The Chanukah Song" has remained an unlikely holiday staple. His tenure on SNL lasted four years, when he left to concentrate on films. Beginning with 1989's Going Overboard, other films came in quick succession including Billy Madison, Bulletproof, Happy Gilmore, The Wedding Singer, The Waterboy, and Big Daddy. These films were almost universally panned by critics, but were favorites among audiences. Subsequent roles included 2002's Punch-Drunk Love, Spanglish, Reign Over Me, I Now Pronounce You Chuck and Larry, and 2008's You Don't Mess with the Zohan. He is currently working on Bedtime Stories.
Sandler lives in Los Angeles and New York. He is married to Jacqueline Titone, and they have one daughter, Sadie.
