Well-rounded, conscious, Bassist, Pianist & Producer Troy Lampkins expands the definition of spiritual music. The son and godson of prominent San Francisco Bay Area Jazz musicians, Troy began playing the Bass at 4 years old. By 9 years old, Troy had already played his first gig. By age 15, he was already sharing the stage with Jazz greats Pharaoh Sanders, Eddie Marshall, Ray Obiedo, and his Godfather, the late Ed Kelly. Influenced by great Bassists like Jaco Pastorius and John Patitucci as well as the Organ phrasings of Hammond B-3 players Shirley Scott and Jimmy Smith, Troy fashioned his signature approach to playing Bass. Playing both the Upright and Electric Bass, Troy is a virtuoso performer on the Electric 6-String Bass. Since beginning his musical career, Troy has appeared with a number of prominent artists including Regina Belle, George Duke, Pete Escovedo, Tramaine Hawkins, Phyllis Hyman, and Angela Bofill. Well-versed in most musical genres, Troy's innovative playing can also be heard on a number of recording projects with Rhiannon, The Oakland Interfaith Gospel Choir, Jenna Mammina, Michael Franti and Spearhead, and Saxophonist, Dave Ellis. An in-demand session player, Troy has made appearances on a number of recordings with prominent music producers such as Frank Martin and Narada Michael Walden. In 1998, he appeared on the legendary group, The Temptations, platinum selling album Phoenix Rising.
