Michael Gordon

b. London England. When Gordon was four years old his family moved to Jamaica where he was raised in the Parish of St. Mary. He returned to the UK in his teens where he completed his education in Battersea, south London. On leaving school Gordon joined forces with Lorenzo Hall, Ian Austin, Leroy Graham and Martin Christie in the studio band the Private I’s. The group enjoyed a modicum of success, but they accomplished greater recognition when they evolved into the Investigators.

In 1986, a year after the Investigators disbanded, Gordon embarked on a solo career and signed to Fashion Records in the UK. His debut, ‘Magic Feeling’, was a commercial success, and led to the release of the equally popular, ‘Love Is In The Air’. In 1988, Gordon did not renew his contract with Fashion, although his debut album Feelings Of Love went to the top of the reggae charts. The singer’s independent stance led to the formation of his own Sweet Freedom label. In 1990, an album of the Investigators greatest hits was released on Jet Star. As a result of the compilation’s success Gordon re-formed the Investigators with Tony Christie, Colin Burton and the original line-up aside from Ian Austin. The revitalised group embarked on a tour of Europe and the UK for 18 months before Gordon returned to concentrate on his solo career. The singer maintained his profile in the reggae chart with hits such as, ‘Twenty Four Hours’, ‘Angel Eyes’, and ‘Amazing Love’ (a duet with Paulette Tajah), while producer Mikey Simpson released 2001’s sublime Changing Circles. ~ Rovi
