Cirque du Soleil (French for "Circus of the Sun") is a Canadian company self-described as a "dramatic mix of circus arts and street entertainment. The company was founded in 194, by Guy Laliberte, in Montreal, QC, Canada.
The company was initially known as "Les Échassiers" and toured Quebec. There company has grown in leaps and bounds during the 1990s and 2000s - having numerous tour and permanent residence shows worldwide.
The company has received four Prime Time Emmy® Awards: one in 2003 for "Cirque du Soleil Fire Within" and three in 2001 for "or Cirque du Soleil Presents Dralion."
