Vinyl Devotion

Jangle-pop band Vinyl Devotion was led by singer/guitarist Shalini Chatterjee, who formed the group in San Francisco in 1993. Debuting with the single "Sorry Isn't Good Enough," in 1994 they issued the EP If They Know You're Trying, produced by Chatterjee's then-husband Scott Miller, frontman for the Loud Family. After the couple separated, Chatterjee relocated to Winston-Salem, NC, where in 1997 she assembled a new Vinyl Devotion lineup; hooking up with legendary producer Mitch Easter, they recorded the acclaimed single "Euphoria," followed in early 1998 by the LP Floor Model. After playing its final show at New York's Mercury Lounge that November 1, Vinyl Devotion dissolved, and Chatterjee formed a new group with Easter and his former Let's Active collaborators Jon Heames on bass and Eric Marshall on drums. Credited to simply Shalini, the album We Want Jelly Donuts followed in the summer of 2000. ~ Jason Ankeny, Rovi
