Engelbert Humperdinck, born Arnold George Dorsey on May 2, 1936 in Madras, India, is an internationally known singer who became famous after a string of romantic ballads her recorded during the 60's and 70's. His peculiar stage name was adopted from the famous German opera composer.
In 1967 Humperdinck's ballad "Release Me" climbed to the top of the UK's top 50, displacing the Beatles' "Strawberry Fields" from the #1 position for 56 weeks. After his initial success a string of ballads combined with his smooth voice and stage presence garnered him a large following of fanatic fans, a fan base that has not yielded to time and continues to flock to his shows in Vegas to this day.
Over the years Humperdinck has continuously kicked up the performance aspect of his shows. Considering himself an entertainer he strives to show his audiences something new and unexpected at every performance.
