A product of quiet Stamford, England, the punk-pop trio Midget began their career under the name the Smokin' Lizards. Formed when its members -- singer/guitarist Richard Gombault, bassist Andy Hawkins and drummer Lee Major -- were still in their mid-teens, the group quickly folded, only to soon reconvene under the name Midget. After earning a fervent live following, the trio recorded a demo tape which caught the attention of a number of labels, and in late 1996 they signed with Radar Records. Early the following year Midget issued their debut single "Kylie and Jason," followed a few months later by "Camoflage," their first UK chart entry. After a pair of EPs, Welcome Home Jellybean and Optimism, the group issued the Alco-Pop mini-album, which collected past singles tracks; two more 1998 EPs -- All Fall Down and Invisible Balloon -- preceded the release of Midget's full-length debut, Jukebox. ~ Jason Ankeny, Rovi
