John Stein

b. c.1890, prob. New Orleans, Louisiana, USA, d. unknown date. A drummer, Stein formed a band in New Orleans to play the newly emerging music known as jazz. This was at the Pup Café, Stein’s first and only professional engagement in the city. In 1915, he took his band to Chicago, Illinois where the new music was becoming very popular.
