Steve Swallow

While he doesn’t get nearly the credit he deserves, electric bassist Steve Swallow is one of the forefathers of jazz fusion. While he began on the acoustic bass, Swallow switched to bass guitar in the late 1960s and never looked back. In his early days, Swallow played with Art Farmer, Jimmy Giuffre, and Paul Bley; in the mid/late-‘60s, he began a long musical partnership with vibraphonist Gary Burton, whose quartet was one of the earliest fusion bands.
