An Australian student who parlayed his music technology degree into a thriving production career, Tim Koch first became influenced by electronic music via the soundtracks for eight-bit video games. He played bass and drums in a few local bands, then studied at Adelaid University. While there, he began recording at the school's P.A.T.U. recording studio, sequencing tracks with synthesizers and drum machines. Koch began releasing his work as Thug in 1997, recording tracks for two compilations: Blip Bleep: Soundtracks to Imaginary Video Games for New York's Lucky Kitchen and Extracted Celluloid for Negativland's Seeland Records. The Australian label Aural Industries debuted with Koch's first full-length, Isolated Rhythm Clock. ~ John Bush, Rovi
