Synthesizer pioneer, pianist and singer George Duke, was born in San Rafael, California on January 12 1946. Duke is known mainly for his collaborations with other idolized artists including, Cannonball Adderley, Anita Baker, Regina Belle, George Clinton, Billy Cobham, his cousin Dianne Reeves, Marilyn Scott, Jill Scott, Frank Zappa and many more. Duke worked alongside Jean-Luc Ponty to establish himself with his album “The Jean-Luc Ponty Experience with the George Duke Trio”.
Duke was the musical director on several events including the Nelson Mandela Tribute which took place at Wembley Stadium in London in 1988 and the following year he was musical director for NBC’s Sunday Night for its first season, temporarily replacing Marcus Miller.
Duke's songs have been used by numerous contemporary musicians in a large array of genres.
