Joan Hauck

I have been creating art for more years than I care to remember. I began painting landscapes in oils and acrylic, and noticed that they were becoming more and more simplistic and abstract. Eventually bowing to the inevitable, I began to work exclusively in the abstract, mostly in acrylic, mixed media and encaustic. If you visit my studio, you will see that my work is constantly evolving, (I have a short attention span) but the common thread running through it is color, texture, luminosity and a delight in the unexpected.

Acrylic, mixed media and/or collage: Thin glazes, combined with relief printing scraping, pouring, adding materials, and/or weaving to create patterns and textures. Spontaneity, serendipity, the happy accident—these conspire to encourage my explorations. The process is the pleasure.

And now I have discovered the magic of fiber: fabric, wire, thread, beads, combined to make wall hangings and whimsical three-dimensional pieces.
