Prof. Dr. Cindy Zuoxin Wang, lyrics coloratura soprano, is the first artist from the People's Republic of China to receive a Doctor of Music Arts degree in voice performance from the United States.
AT age of 18, Wang was the youngest leading soprano in the Shanghai Opera where she performed Chinese and Western operas. She was honored as on of the ten best young artists in Shanghai and was profiled in a documentary. She has won numerous awards for young singers and opera professionals both in China and US. She has appeared in concerts, radio, and television, including singing for several major roles in televised musical plays and hosting several special music programs. Wang has performed operas and given recitals in Paris, Vienna, Berlin, New York's Carnegie Hall, Philadelphia, Minneapolis, San Jose, Washington D.C., Boston, Honolulu, Berkeley and Shanghai. She aslo appeared inthe premieres of several new musicals in San Francisco and New York. The New York Times, Boston Herald, San Jose Mercury News, Asian Week, etc., all gave her an exceptionally high degree of praise: "Just marvelous... and absolutely exquisite singer with firm musicality and warm communicativeness." "She sang with serene eloquence and warmth."
Currently Prof. Wang is the Vice Chair of the Music Theater Department at Shanghai Conservatory of Music. She is also one of the Pujiang scholars selected by Shanghai City's Government.
