New Kids on the Block consists of Jonathan Knight, Jordan Knight, Joey McIntyre, Danny Wood and Donnie Wahlberg and was the first modern boy band to reach extreme commercial success. The band was founded by producer Maurice Starr in 1984.
NKOTB released its self-titled debut album in 1986 without favorable results. The band was forced to tour Europe and perform in small venues such as high school auditoriums and malls until, in 1988, Columbia Records released the group's second album "Hangin' Tough." The second album was certified triple platinum by the RIAA. The first single off of the "Hangin' Tough" album, "Please Don't Go," climbed to the #10 spot on the Billboard's Hot 100 Singles Chart. The second single reached # 1. By 1990, New Kids on the Block was a sensation and its brand name could sell everything from CDs to t-shirts to dolls. They released two more albums before they split in 1994 - "Step by Step" (1990) and "Face the Music" (1994).
After a 14 year hiatus, all 5 band members, now grown men, decided to bring the band back together. They have recorded an album called "The Block.”
