Widely considered to be Hollywood's premier fashion stylist, Phillip Bloch has leapt from behind the camera to the big screen. Bloch was cast to star in his first feature film, THE UNSEEN, as a blind and abused southerner named 'Sammy.' As well as bringing this character to life, Phillip's role as a producer helped fuel the project to fruition. Bloch went on to shoot three other independent films in 2005 and 2006. He plays a reporter in DELIRIOUS,making its American debut at the Sundance Film Festival… Show more in January '07. It is directed by Tom DiCillo and stars Steve Buscemi, Allison Lohman, and features a cameo of Elvis Costello. In DIRTY LAUNDRY, which will be released nationwide in Spring '07, his comic abilities were tested while playing a nosey Middle Eastern hot dog vendor. Rockmand Dunbar and Loretta Devine star. His next project, VICTORIANA, unveils a small New York ensemble and portrays Bloch as a neurotic germaphobe art dealer. Philllip has been seen in two other independent films that garnered critical acclaim at the Sundance Film Festival in 2000. As the opening film of Outfest, THE EYES OF TAMMY FAYE documents Bloch as himself. In the second film, THE INTERN, Bloch appropriately portrays a stylist at an ultra-hip fashion magazine, and his acting gig in the hip hop mogul Damon Dash's film, DEATH OF A DYNASTY, had its premiere at the Tribeca Film Festival in 2003. The buzz has gotten out, and Bloch has been cast in several television shows for parts specifically written for him, such as the highly praised HBO series ENTOURAGE. In Denis Leary's'MERRY F#IN' CHRISTMAS'special on Comedy Central, Phillip gave Santa a metrosexual makeover. He then made the jump to reality TV on STYLE ME WITH RACHEL HUNTER (The WE Network). His role as co-host and judge garnered stellar reviews.
In addition to his new acting career, Phillip is also an accomplished writer starting in Spring '07 he has a featured opinion colomn as a pop culture guru at ABC.com. He has also written for international magazines such as Elle, Fashion Quarterly, and Detour. As well as writing clever and witty commentaries on fashion and style for such high-powered companies as eBay, DKNY, Neiman Marcus, and Lady Foot Locker. As a contributing editor, he has covered the New York and European collections for In Style magazine. Bloch is often referred to as Hollywood's 'Fashion Guru.' As a result, it was only natural that he would write and produce a photo driven book titled, Elements of Style, which was published by Warner Books in 1999. It is still successfully selling on Amazon.com, and is in bookstores today, as he begins writing his next book in '07.
Bloch was voted one of People Magazine's 'Fifty Hottest Bachelors' and Cosmopolitan's 'Four Most Lusted After Men in Fashion.' He appears regularly on most major network talk shows and is frequently featured on VH1 and MTV ('Newlyweds,' 'Punk'd,' 'House of Style - Mission Makeover' and 'Becoming'). He often serves as a guest correspondent on CNN, ABC, E!, Style Network, Oprah and Entertainment Tonight. You also can find Phillip appearing frequently on many morning talk shows such as The View, Good Morning America, Regis and Kelly, CBS This Morning, and numerous others. Internationally, Bloch often appears on BBC, Rai, Canal Plus, Telemundo and Globo TV. Using his fashion expertise, he gives countless interviews on fashion, trends, style, beauty makeovers and thrifty shopping tips.
Phillip filled the shoes of eBay'sVoice of Fashion from 2001 to 2004, where he posted regular online trend alerts and style columns to make shopping on eBay even more consumer friendly. In addition, he would include the hottest fashion finds and behind the scenes stories of his so called 'glamorous life.'
In the past few years, Phillip has had the honor to serve as spokesperson for various corporations, not only in fashion, but in lifestyle as well. These corporations include Visa's'Famous Streets Across America' program, Gillette's 'Turbo Mach III,' Crest, Luxotica Eyewear (Rayban), CadillacEscalade, MarchonEyewear (Calvin Klein, Donna Karan, Nike, Fendi, and Coach), Lycra's 'Elements of Style' campaign, Pizza Hut, Bounce, Hanes Hosiery and many more. His other promotional collaborations are contracted with Target, JC Penny, Marshal Fields, Mervyn's, Revlon, Estee Lauder, Panteen and Redken. Phillip participates in media satellite tours and various interviews with magazines, newspapers and radio experts from around the globe. He regularly hosts events for Vogue Magazine, editor luncheons, and in-store promotions throughout the country. As a spokesman, he has assisted in launching major beauty products by Clairol's MC Max, Avon's Little Black Dress, and Garnier's Nutrisse.
In June 2000, Bloch designed and successfully launched a line of jewelry on QVC, selling over $2 million in 2 years with only 12 live telecasts. For '07 Bloch is gearing up to launch his first ready to wear women's collection designed to combine star style and everyday affordable prices- taking the woman, 'from the boardroom to the ballroom.'
Phillip holds close to his heart his charitable affiliations. In 2006, he was awarded the title of ambassador to the Youth AIDS organization, where he hosted events with celebrity colleagues Ashley Judd, Emme Rossum, and Josh Lucas. In January 2005 when South East Asia was devastated by a tsunami, Phillip immediately connected with Jane Kaczmarek and Bradley Whitford's extremely successful charity Clothes Off Our Back. Together they coordinated a three-month charity auction to raise substantial funds for the UNICEF Tsunami Relief Fund. He regularly teams up with corporate, celebrity and private charities such as Avon's Crusade Against Breast Cancer, Revlon's Fight to Cure Breast Cancer, Planet Hope, Atlanta Center for the Visually Impaired, Pam and Ed McMahon's Christmas Toy Give-Away, and Mervyn's California Community Closet, a program that provides stylish career wear for women and men making the transition from welfare to work. This award-winning program goes a long way to help improve self-esteem, motivation, and a successful employment rate. Immediately following the September 11th crisis, Phillip found yet another way to combine fashion and charity with the very successful Auction for America where he got celebrity friends and top fashion designers to donate their favorite gowns, from which all of the proceeds went to the Twin Towers Fund. Being blessed with an eye for what looks best on who, it was only natural that he would try to repay the gift by volunteering to work with visually impaired children at the Atlanta Center for the Visually Impaired. In 2006, The Mattel Company donated to the center from an auction of Bloch's much-publicized makeover, Barbie's boy toy Ken, which proved to be as multi-faceted as he is. Politically, Phillip Bloch is a major force and a very active member of The Creative Coalition. Lobbying for vital issues like advocacy of the arts and campaign funds, he has frequently visited Washing D.C. to meet with members of Congress and the Senate.
