First became interested in filmmaking when his dad's boss brought a video camera to his sister's 10th birthday party and made a film of it. At 12, he made his own version of A Nightmare on Elm Street . Made his feature-film directorial debut with the 2001 horror-comedy All Cheerleaders Die, which he also wrote and produced.
