The Downliners Sect
Formed in 1962, the eclectic outfit, heavily influenced by American R&B, released their debut single, a version of Jimmy Reed’s "Baby What’s Wrong" for EMI Records in late 1963, followed by the full-length THE SECT in 1964. Their irreverent musical approach angered R&B purists, while their deliberately tweedy image did little to attract a younger audience.
