India is renowned for the myriad of its textile traditions. Among its most famous products has been the Kashmir shawl, from which the paisley pattern was derived. The shawl became a fashion symbol of the wealthy of Western Europe beginning in the late 18th century. Our speaker, Dr. David Reisbord, saw his first Kashmir shawl on a trip to India many years ago.
