Introduction to Filmmaking

Winter Studio Dates: January 14 - April 1, 2013

Students will learn about moving images, understanding the process and production of digital video film making. Students will learn how to shoot and edit a film, produce and package a DVD, create a poster for film promotion and set-up a website. Students will produce a film short. Film approaches will include narrative, experimental music video and animation. Final film packaging will introduce shooting and manipulating images using Photoshop, creating… Show more graphic layouts and texts for a movie poster, DVD case and website. This class will present a history of film, video and animation including web art. Software programs used include: Final Cut Pro, After Effects, DVD Pro, Photoshop and My Design.

Winter 2013 Studio registration begins Wednesday, November 28.

ArtHigh (ages 15-18)
Art High at the Armory offers various opportunities for high school students to gain valuable art experiences. Instruction concentration is in two areas: visual arts and media arts. Depending on student needs and level of exposure, these opportunities include: Armory Art High classes, Armory partner classes, Armory adult classes in painting, drawing, ceramics, digital art and more; and the introduction of our portfolio lab for school students. Students work with professional artists in various disciplines who are experts in bringing their experience into the classroom. Classes take place at the Armory’s main location, satellite locations and community partner sites. ArtHigh classes are limited to one class per student per session.

Armory Art High classes are reduced tuition, and are underwritten, in part, by gifts from individual donors and grants and from the California Arts Council, City of Pasadena Cultural Affairs Division, the City of Pasadena Human Services Endowment Fund, The Eisner Foundation, the Institute of Museum and Library Services, The Rose Hills Foundation, The Rowe and Gayle Giesen Trust, Sony Pictures Entertainment, and the Surdna Foundation.

Enrollment is on a first come first serve basis. There is a $40 registration fee per class. The registration fee is nonrefundable. Students must be 15 years old by the first day of class.
