California Bach Society: Monteverdi Vespers of 1610 (Palo Alto)

Saturday, Oct 12, 2013 8:00p

California Bach Society presents Monteverdi’s magnificent Vespers of 1610. Paul Flight leads the 35-voice choir, soprano Rita Lilly, tenor Brian Staufenbiel, Baroque violinists Kati Kyme and Shira Kammen, cornettist Kiri Tollaksen, and members of The Whole Noyse. The sonic grandeur of this masterpiece mirrors the Byzantine architecture and luminous gold ceiling mosaics of the Basilica of San Marco in Venice, where the work was first performed.
