I SAW LARRY MYERS AS JAMES PURDY

Anyone expecting a goofy out-of-synch old professor without real stage chops is in for ba surprise!
PLAYWRIGHT LARRY MYERS channels the late, great cantankerous misunderstood vovelist/playwright JAMES PURDY. I guess (other than Purdy handler John Uecker) this manh was privy to PURDY. His characterization is a haunted channeling--spooky & jarring. Dr. Myers worked with the greats--TENNESSEE WILLIAMS,LEE STRASBERG, DR MARIA PISCATOR>
Some of that must have not oinly rubbed off but saturated! This is a stage seance & the artistry of a gifted mystic journalist & innovative theater maker. Does Ocean Grove get it!?

Award Winning New York Playwright LARRY MYERS to premiere new works in Starving's Cabaret Theatre

I understand the fabulous play
"Mary Anderson's Encore" (about the 19 century actress Mary Anderson (who actually lived in Long Branch, New Jersey)was published by THREE ROOMS PRESS. It is by Dr. Larry Myers, dramatist/historian/professor/theater authority. was thrilled to hear that THE STARVING ARTIST CABRET THEATRE will premiere 3 new works by Dr. Myers. Two of these will be done in September & October. I hear LARRY MYERS will appear as James Purdy in his own play "Interviewing Mr. James Purdy" with Arnold Teixera as the Interviewer. Also I hear that Myers' "Lowell Thomas in Arabia & Asbury Park" will be doine there as well as "Thomas Merton's Revelation." Dr. Myers was a close friend of the famous novelist, James Purdy & his play is based on 2 decades of conversations the 2 shared. Myers will be visiting Purdy's hometown in Freemont, Ohio, as well as The garst Museum in Greenville, Ohio, which features a startling Lowell Thomas Exhibit. Myers attended Lowell Thomas' funeral at St. Patrick
s Cathedral several decades ago. Myers was a Tennessee Williams protege before undertaking a Ph.D. & teaching 3 decades. He has begunan International Playwriting center at Manhattan St. John's.
