Cowboy Poetry and Songs: How the West Was Rhymed

Wednesday, Sep 25, 2013 7:00p

Poet and singer, George Ray Russell, will present cowboy poems and songs and tell stories about their origins, as well as recite his own cowboy poetry. Many of his own poems are sung with guitar accompaniment in the cowboy tradition and are about his experiences as well as those of the old cowboys he has met in his lifetime.

Cowboy Poetry and songs in the American west started as a necessity. Songs and poetry provided much-needed entertainment around the campfire after a long day’s work.
