What is change anyway and what extreme lengths does the human brain go to avoid it? This workshop is designed for change makers, designers, innovators and actionists wanting to get the 101 on relevant change theories and actions.
Join Un-School for a 3-part interactive workshop saloon workshop series that dives deep into the psychological, behavioural, economic and social conditions that affect, challenge and promote change - social, cultural and behavioural. Your Brain on Change is an experiential… Show more conversation led by Leyla Acaroglu, a sociologist, sustainability expert and award winning designer that actively explores limits, issues, opportunities and theories on change.
Participants will explore change as it relates to the self and to society at large as they are guided in uncovering unbeknownst limitations in their own brain and, zooming out, are led to understand how the world around us is constantly changing.
About the Sessions
Session 1 - Nov 4: Combining narratives and activations, the first session of Your Brain on Change covers an introduction to historical and contemporary change theories, including behaviour change, social practices and norms.
Session 2 - Nov 11: Your Brain on Change Session 2 will take you for a trip through the many important scientific understandings of human cognitive experiences related to change. From behavioural studies to economics, sociology and psychology, this session is a must for any change maker looking to get a grip on the contemporary understandings of human experience.
Session 3 - Nov 18: The third and final instalment of the Your Brain On Change series zeroes in on the limitations of targeting behaviour change as opposed to systems change. Attendees will be guided to explore the fascinating ways our brains use autopilot to reduce energy use (and thus change us without us knowing) and the ways that we can creatively influence change.
*Sessions can be attended individually or as a complete series (the latter is recommended for full benefit). Expect participatory challenges and tricks to demonstrate our collective predisposition to social influence. This will be a little bit like a magic show, but way more subversive… and, you know, rooted in science as opposed to smoke and mirrors.
