Private equity. What’s in a name?
Or more poignantly, what was in a name, and what was it synonymous with? Corporate raiders? Vultures? Job killers? Or did the industry really create jobs and, possibly more importantly, better run companies that truly helped the US economy?
On Tuesday, April 2, 2013, America's Future Foundation (AFF) New York will be presenting a panel discussion on the private equity industry. Topics will focus on the nature of the business, the past spotlight on whether private… Show more equity is "good or evil" (particularly in light of the 2012 election), and where the industry will go from here. The panel will be moderated by the man behind @PE_Feeds, and panelists will range from seasoned journalists covering the industry and PE deal flow data providers to executives themselves.

Jason Kelly is the managing editor of Bloomberg LINK, overseeing content for the firm’s global conference business. He’s the author of The New Tycoons: Inside the Trillion Dollar Private Equity Industry That Owns Everything, the product of five years leading Bloomberg’s coverage of the private equity business. He’s also a frequent contributor to Bloomberg Television. During his tenure at Bloomberg, he’s written about issues ranging from the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina to economic development during the war in Afghanistan. Prior to joining Bloomberg in 2002, he was the editor in chief of digitalsouth magazine, a publication focused on technology and finance in the Southeast and Texas. He earned a bachelor’s degree from Georgetown University.

Until November 2010, he was Editor in Chief of PEI Media, a media company covering the alternative investment industry, with offices in London, New York, Singapore and Hong Kong. Snow played a key role across PEI’s editorial products, events and business strategies, including the launch of magazines serving the private equity, private real estate and infrastructure asset classes. He has a Master of International Affairs from Columbia University and undergraduate degrees in Political Science and Chinese Studies from the University of California at San Diego. He grew up in Honolulu, Hawaii.
