On Thursday evening, April 25, Out Professionals invites you to network and socialize at SoHo's buzz-worthy Leslie-Lohman Museum of Gay and Lesbian Art, "Best Place for Gay Culture" (Time Out New York, New York's Best 2012).
Enjoy cocktails and a leisurely private viewing of "Paul Thek and His Circle: Gay in the 1950s," showcasing early work by the legendary Brooklyn-born artist Paul Thek… Show more (1933-1988) and his friends, among them the noted photographer Peter Hujar (1934-1987).
In 1966 Susan Sontag dedicated her breakthrough book, "Against Interpretation" to Thek. In 1989 she dedicated another, "Aids and Its Metaphors," to his memory. Today Thek's work may be seen in the collections of New York's Whitney Museum of American Art and Washington's Hirshhorn Museum and Sculpture Garden, among others.
This event inaugurates a promotional partnership between Out Professionals and Leslie-Lohman, internationally the first museum dedicated to exhibiting, preserving and fostering the creation of LGBTQ art, past and present.
