Billy Harper, a sonically arresting and moving tenor saxophonist, is — like many of the other great “Texas Tenors” — immediately recognizable by an immense, distinctive sound. Stylistically influenced by Coltrane, Harper has worked extensively with Art Blakey, Max Roach, Gil Evans, Elvin Jones, and Lee Morgan. He returns by popular demand with a blistering quintet featuring pianist Francesca Tanksley.
