His mother, a manic-depressive schizophrenic, was in and out of mental institutions throughout his childhood. She killed her third husband and later killed herself. His father was an alcoholic who was fairly brutal to him his whole life. His wife of fifteen years forged checks, cleaned out his bank accounts, and cheated on him with two men.
