This exhibition, sponsored by the Abita Brewing Company, will feature photographs by Jackson Hill from the recently released Abita cookbook, “Cooking Louisiana True.” The exhibit will run through March 4, 2010.
Hill will sign copies of the book at the opening night party and Abita Beer will be served. The opening night party also will feature New Orleans author Katie Bowler who will read her poem "State Street." The long poem follows Bowler, photographer Donn Young, and an NBC Nightly News crew as they traverse post-Katrina New Orleans, reclaiming what could be salvaged of more than 35 years’ worth of Young’s historic New Orleans photography.
At its conclusion, the opening night party moves to Studio 527 at 527 Julia Street for the first Slideshow Potluck New Orleans event sponsored by the New Orleans Photo Alliance. The event is a pot-luck meal followed by 90-minutes of slide show photography in which one artist’s body of work will follow the others.
“It’s an evening celebrating the art of photography,” says Liz Williams, president of the Southern Food and Beverage Museum. “We genuinely want to maintain a relationship with photographers and with the New Orleans Photo Alliance. As a museum, we’ll always have something that focuses on photography.”
Hill is a still photographer who shoots extensively in the oil & gas, maritime, industrial, aerial and architectural fields. He frequently exhibits his work at his studio/gallery Southern Lights near downtown New Orleans. He taught photography for 12 years at New Orleans Center for the Creative Arts and gives seminars about photography and digital imaging.
