When astronaut Capt. Charles ``Chuck'' Baker lands on Planet 51, he thinks he's the first lifeform to ever set foot there. Instead, he gets the surprise of his life when he learns that Planet 51 is indeed inhabited by little green people who live in an idyllic version of 1950s America -- complete with a universal fear of alien invasion.

This seems like a good start for this seemingly new production company. They seem to have a decent grasp on the mechanics of doing an animated film, and had enough of their own style to set them apart from the massive companies like Disney and Pixar. Was it 'as good as'? Naw, a good start, I'm sure these guys will refine their technique and come up with something great.
It's a kids' movie, but with a confusing level of adult references.
The movie was one facepalm after another. So many tongue in cheek jokes, sight gags, and homages to other films you could hear the audience just say "awe god..." repeatedly. But if you were a kid you wouldn't get the joke. Which is where the movie loses a lot of it's charm. If you didn't have the references the movie was a bland cliché 'zero-to-hero' film.
Again though. It's nice to see something outside the massive cartoon farms.

If you're hoping this is as good as Wall-E, you're going to be disappointed. You know how the really good Disney movies have something for everyone? This movie is 95% for little boys, has 1 joke for parents ("that's a funny place for an antena"), and seems long. My 4 yr old boy liked it (although he was covering his eyes at the brain surgery part). He's obsessed with aliens but he didn't leave this movie asking to see it again or talking about any of the characters in it. In fact, I thought he was going to fall asleep, which would be the first time he's ever been bored at a movie. My 10 yr old daughter found nothing amusing in it & she's not picky about her movies. So I really can't say it's fun for the whole family. It's probably not as good as Disney's Hercules movie (remember that? "Zero to Hero"? Exactly.)
