It was just okay. I wouldn't rent it for anyone else to watch and I sure wouldn't go see it again. Some of the acting was really bad. The painting man as "evil destroyer of the earth" is a liberal slant if I ever saw one.

I thought the visual effects were good and that was about the only redeeming quality.

Oh please

What is it with the overriding concern about political agendas these days? The same folks who kvetch about "liberal" points of view said little if anything when the tables were turned. Global issues are apolitical by nature. Stop worrying about whether the left wing is creeping into your bedrooms at night. Unless you'd rather be in a situation like the old, hard-line Communist Chinese regimes in which every word, note, action, and nuance had to tread a fine-and government-sanctioned- line.

A good movie

It seems that the more a movie is hyped up nowadays the more people hate on it...

This was a "good movie"...It's not the best movie ever, but far from the worst. It's entertaining, keeps your attention, and i enjoyed it.

For the story. I think it sticks with the original idea... There is a powerful message in the film, AND, given the right/left political hooplah response...I would say that it's a successful story. A plot that generates an emotional response is a success in my book, and this does just that.

Was what I expected.

I was really young when I saw the original and didn't remember much of anything.

This remake was ok. As a stand alone movie it was "alright". It isn't worth seeing in the theater as the visual effects are lack luster, and the sound is bland too. See it, don't really need to rent it, but if you run into it on TV, go ahead and watch it.

The acting was decent, nothing too outstanding, sometimes a little bland or boring even. Jennifer Connelly was bland in this role, all of her emotions were kind of watered down. I've seen her do better, so I don't know where her tallent went with this film...

While the effects were bland and left somethign to be desired, the environements were pretty good, it's definately an "East Coast" I'd never seen before. A lot of the scenes take place outside of town with new york as the backdrop, which is a nice change. Everything was so alive too, there wasn't a single scene where there wasn't a breeze of some sort. Really added a decent touch. Though the foggy areas they used a little too often, that was a bit cliché...

The Product placement in thsi film was so rediculous... It's like watchign a Nascar race, there isn't a single scene were a logo isn't flashed in front of you. Really low class... Though it was a nice break seeing Windows logos instead of the usual Mac Laptops everywhere...

There seems to be some kind of fad right now about bashing enviromentally consious messages. And the phraise "Left Wing Agenda". It's really akward seeing people bashing others for trying to get the right message out; like it is somehow 'cool' to hate the guy trying to make your air cleaner... Other reviews and conversations about this movie and movies with like messages (Wall-E) make me kind of sick. Guess what? We Americans are Gas-Guzzling, poluting, fat, fast food eating, undernourished, lazy, wasteful pieces of crap. Sure it's offensive to have it shoved in your face, and I am sorry movies aren't all the latest half naked Vin Diesel flick to stimulate your erotic or homo-erotic natures... But maybe if you went in expecting more than fast cars, tits, and explosions, you'd enjoy more. But that is asking the zombies to apreciate wine, when all they want is brains...

In no way am I insinuating this movie is a fine Merlot, no, it's a 2-Buck Chuck. But the message was genuine.

Not bad for a Remake

I never saw the original, so I wont act like an idiot and base my rating off of a comparison vs the merits of the movie itself.

I was pretty impressed with the way the movie moved along. There were some silly parts, but nothing unforgivable. I am glad they updated the movie and moved it out of the cold war influenced reasoning and into something a little more understandable for today's times. It seems some people felt it was too "liberal" (because somehow being concerned with the state of our environment is liberal). While that seems to be a theme, it's not brought up in any more specific tones than "You guys are ruining the planet", which is a nice change from the full blown guilt trip I've come to expect from movies these days.

All in all, Keanu did a good job, but playing a deadpan, if not confused alien, wasn't much of a stretch from other roles he's portrayed.

Thank you so very much for telling the rest of us about the movie. I appreciate that you did not care for it but why tell us everything else?

The Day The Earth Stood Still Remake

I understand all the angst with all the affcionados and fans of the original in their vast disappointment with this remake.
I too looked forward with great anticipation to being thrilled with modern technology melded to a good script. When you have such a stupendous original why must the director butcher the script in so many ways. Least important but glaringly evident is the "Political Correct" but totally unnecessary poetic license to force an ad agency type child of color with a bushy combination of dreaklocks and a fro into the role of Billy Gray. Why not make a remake of Roots and make Kunta Kinte a caucasian boy from the midwest?
Why jam that down people's throats when it doesn't fit the reality of the script of the first movie. Much much too obvious a lame and liberal and gratuitous insertion of schlocky bologna which made most everyone cringe with the obvious attempt by the director to be ultra liberal. Thats nice, thats lovely but so totally unnecessary and staged that liberals were puking in the audience.
