Chaos reigns in the New York City subway system when heavily armed criminals, led by a mastermind named Ryder (John Travolta), hijack a subway train and threaten to kill everyone on board unless a large ransom is paid. Dispatcher Walter Garber (Denzel Washington) uses his extensive knowledge of the transit system in a bid to outwit the hijackers and save the hostages, but one question remains: even if the hijackers get their money, how can they possibly escape?

I do not understand why only 50% of this movies viewers enjoyed it. Tony Scott's directing was very refreshing and upbeat and Denzel Washington and John Travolta's characters were profound. It was indeed a thriller, and I was put to tears three times. The story line was amazing. The only negative thing was too much use of profanity. But who cares? It's New York anyways. :)

If you are dissappointed by violence and language, then why go see an "R" rated movie? The rating warns of this clearly.
Your review is kinda like a sign warning - this area contains poo; you proceed anyway and step into poo and get it on the bottom of your shoe - THEN COMPLAIN!
This movie was extremely well-acted, as is the norm of John Travolta.

The plot is, to quote my wife, 'very suspenseful.' - and very violent in parts.
Travolta plays a very easily angered Ryder whose bad language is well over the top and does nothing to enhanse the film. I was badly disappointed.
