This movie recreates much of the time period, drama, and excitement of the young Orson Welles in his early career through the eyes of a semi-fictional young high school student played by Zac Efron (who does a superb job acting.) At this point in time, Orson Welles is pretty much an unknown: he hadn't yet terrorized the nation with his "World of the Worlds" radio production, nor even yet created "Citizen Kane". His breakthrough hinged on creating a fresh and revolutionary production of Shakespeare's "Julius Caesar" at the age of 22!
In addition to his brilliance and creativity, Orson Welles was a man of enormous ego and appetites. In this movie, we see him at a time, where those traits hadn't yet started to work against him, but instead are part of the package.
Christian McKay brings Orson Welles to life, letting us witness a young man as an artist during his ascendency.
If you've ever wonder about Orson Welles, you got to see this film!
