i dont have motion sickness, but i felt queasy and got headache throughout.
i didnt really like the whole hand-held kinda thing. it shouldn't been that way so ppl could see better.
overall, it was an ok film. but was not the best ever.

Terrifying, surprising, and realistic; this is a must see for those of us who love large scale disaster scene movies.
The handheld is great throughout, the acting is decent, and the effects are amazing.
It didn't get the full five stars because I was hoping for more monster vs. soldier footage but it's great nonetheless.

I absolutely loved this movie! I find myself thinking about it constantly and can't wait to see it again!
I'm glad not everything was explained because that was the whole point of the movie--to be put in the actual people's shoes and made to believe it's real. If this had been real, they wouldn't have known anything, so why should we? Besides, the end shot of the harbor next to Coney Island DID provide a small idea of where the monster came from. Plus, a few of the military guys had cameras on their helmets, so there might be a sequel...
I gave it four stars instead of five because, not gonna lie, the running and jiggling of the camera did get a little old, though it did add to the "realness" of the movie.

This was one of the most frightening movies I've ever watched. The whole thing is done through the lens of a digital camera which not only makes it hyper-realistic, but it gives angles seldom seen in usual monster movie fare. Nothing like watching feet running and stumbling (who thinks to hold the camera up when one is running from some horrific tentacled creature?) to get you in the mood for terror.
You've all seen the other reviews, in paper and on websites, so I won't bore you with the details here. However I will dispel some myths:
First, I suffer from motion sickness but I did not feel sick to my stomach once during this film. However, I did start shaking about 30 minutes in and didn't stop until I was in my car on the way home.
Second, you DO get to see the monster, eventually
Third, although the film is shot through the lens of an amateur camera, it has all the necessities of a top-rated film - the costumes, the cinematography, the special effects, good acting ...
and Fourth, this is not just a great monster movie. It's also a love story, and a story about friends and bravery and all the other goods things about people.
Why didn't I give it 5 stars? Well, for one, the sound of the monster. With all the other good things going for it, couldn't they have come up with something other than canned t-rex roars? Maybe something a little more slurpy, or alien in some way.
There you have it. Go see this movie. And see it in the theatres.

This movie proved to be exactly what the previews claimed it to be. At the beginning of the film we read that it is in fact a recording that had been found in what used to be Central Park. This movie was not supposed to tell us what the monster was and what the gov't did. As for the no name actors, Beth is in fact on a good show October Road.
I loved this movie. It was much like the Blair Witch Project. It is a shame that some people were not able to comprehend what the movie actually was.

Seriously, in a life or death situation, would you still be carrying around a video camera and recording everyone? And would you risk your life to rescue the video camera? Personally, I'd ditch the camera and run like mad.
You have no clue what the monster is (I nickname it Godzilla), where it came from, what the govt did in the end, etc. You just know what happened to the friends.. and that's all predictable.
And why is the movie named Cloverfield? The movie should have been called "Godzilla & Family Visit New York."

I managed, unlike my partner, to make it through the entire camera wobbling, stomach churning bile that was Cloverfield however walked out in confusion - there was actually no plot as such - eg where did the monster come from, what did it want, what actually happened to the last two survivors - a lot of guess work involved for a movie which quite frankly, isn't worth the effort. Ghastly, would be a kind description.

I just got home from seeing Cloverfield. I was so disappointed. The movie was very poorly done. If you get nauseous from watching things spin around you, stay away. The whole movie was shot as though it was a personal documentary. Not at all worth your money or your time. Sorry guys I was hoping it would be great but it was the worst movie I have seen in years.

I Saw this flick last night....1hr 30min..No Heavy hitter actors featured...Young 20-somethings along with SCARED New Yorkers are under attack from this huge Ass Monster (Wasnt King Kong & Godzilla enough?). If you've seen the preview trailers you notice the Monster is not seen..The Flick gives few shots of what the thing is that's attacking the city..They hope the Cast of "B-Movie" actors can sell you on the story....
At about 30-min into this Flick you ask yourself why did the studio 'Green-Light' this MESS..
What a WASTE of my money...I love a good Sci-Fi Monster Flick but this sucked big time...The only decent thing about this Flick is the attractive cast..The Black-Valley girl is HOT..The Women are HOT and the Men are Pretty-Boys of course...
But that alone is not enough to sell a movie..Wait for this Flick to show up on HBO or some other Cable network...
One more thing....This flick was filmed like a "Home Video"...You know how people see Hurricanes and they Grab their Cam-Corder and go outside to chase it and DIE?...Then you find the cam corder days later....Well that's how this Flick was filmed....

Other then the brief gripping special effects (blips from the commercial), this movie was terrible - and focuses on the home-video perspective with brief showing of what seems to be Godzilla?
Not recommended to those who are prone to motion-sickness - They should have that warning posted.
