Way Better Than it Should Be

I went to this because I was early for the film I had planned to see. I stayed because it was just too much smarter than it was suppose to be.

This is a future Cult Classic. If just for old action hero Ford and new action hero Craig meet when one is still able and the other in his prime that would make the case. The fact that it is full of tongue in cheek humor, well paced and makes adequate sense out an outrageous proposition is icing.

The reviews I have seen are off the mark. They do not even have the right category. This is Predator 1875 with some twists. Aliens are hunting humans for not any very sensible reason and lassoing them instead of some more sensible approach. They are studying a species that they hardly have any reason to fear and they are supposedly going to destroy us when there is no need to - we are not an obstacle. So do not think too hard.

Why should you? The interaction between Craig and a Billy the Kid punk are crack ups. Every scene with Ford he plays for high camp - until the final scenes where he experiences self discovery - how often does that happen in a summer action film? But within the illogic of the aliens approach the story line makes sense and it is a whole lot cleaner plotting and smarter dialog than the comic book nonsense out there.

For this viewer the arrival of Craig at the mining town and the scenes that followed were the best but there was no real bad stretch, something we cannot say about most summer movies. See it....then go to the film you intended to see.

Aug 01, 2011 - Jennavive. on Cowboys & Aliens

I'm not sure what exactly I was expecting but the fact that there were cowboys, Indians, bandits & aliens was a plus! The acting was good, the casting was excellent, the script was cheesy the way most B sci fi flicks are.

The film features some pretty cool aliens and nice graphics but has a Stupid plot which is: Aliens traveling for light years just to mine off gold on Earth, the film doesn't even tell why are those mining off gold I just suspected it was there source of energy.

Certainly good for a escaping on a hot afternoon or a rental to enjoy on the couch with the family. If you dug Firefly or any cheesy scifi TV series, you will enjoy this, if not wait just wait to rent it.
