Inglourious Basterds

It is the first year of Germany's occupation of France. Allied officer Lt. Aldo Raine (Brad Pitt) assembles a team of Jewish-American soldiers to commit violent acts of retribution against Nazi soldiers, including the taking of their scalps. He and his men join forces with Bridget von Hammersmark, a German actress and undercover agent, to bring down the leaders of the Third Reich. Their fates converge with theater owner Shosanna Dreyfus, who seeks to avenge Nazi execution of her family.

Liked it better than I thought I would

I really liked this movie. Didn't Brad Pitt's character have the same name as the 1st conscientious objector that fled to Canada? This had a good story line although I am thinking it might not be accurate, but wishing it were. ;-) You could have heard a pin drop during chapter 1.

Good movie

It was different than I expected but still very good. The acting by all was superb, particularly Col. Hans Landa, played by Christoph Waltz and Melanie Laurent who played Shosanna Dreyfus. Brad Pitt was very good as usual.

Praise the lord! Quentin is back!

Killing Zoe, Reservoir Dogs, Pulp Fiction; three extremely different movies that were unmistakably Quentin's work. After Pulp Fiction his work got a little rough, rushed. It was like watching a newly signed rock band horrible album after horrible album to finish their record deal...

And then this came along...

Dialogue, dialogue, dialogue.. With a healthy smattering of monologue here and there to make not only the vague points crystal clear, the the crystal clear points amazingly clear. People cringed at Mr. Blonde cutting an ear off a cop on screen... Mr. Blonde ain't got nothing on the itinerary these guys hold. What else would they do? You put a small group of Jewish special forces in Nazi Germany and order them to kill as many Nazis as possible? Hilarity is sure to follow. However as amazing and glorious the gore is in Inglourious Basterds (try saying that 10x fast...) it's actually riding backseat to the actual characters. You KNOW who each and every character is practically down to all the extras. every time you KNOW the plot however... you're given a nifty surprise... I think that if there was one word to describe this movie, it'd be "unpredictable".

The big screen doesn't add much to this movie though, but the crowd does. Go see it as soon as you can you'll be greatly rewarded, as well as rewarding. You'll laugh inappropriately, and ooh and awe at the movie's more colourful scenes.

One thing that lurks in the back of my head was.. Was this a stab at Tom Cruise and Valkure in any way?

In true Quentin Tarantino Style

You won't be disappointed with this film. If you are big fan of Quentin Taratino's films you know his storytelling style and how it is portrayed on film. Oh by the way don't expect it to be a historical account of what happened to the Nazis. Hey, but expect it to be what you may have wanted to happen to the Nazis. It won't disappoint you. As expected blood, suspense, humor, and unexpected turns. It will surprise you what happens to these characters and leave you awe struck. I thought it was a good movie to end the summer with.
