Virgil Cole (Ed Harris) and his longtime friend and partner Everett Hitch (Viggo Mortensen) travel the 1880s Southwest, bringing justice to lawless towns desperate enough to hire them. In the mining town of Appaloosa, malevolent rancher Randall Bragg and his cronies ride roughshod over the frightened citizens. As Cole and Hitch work to end Bragg's reign of terror, an unconventional widow (Renee Zellweger) arrives, complicating the job and threatening their bond.

Very good! Great ending. Stay for the final song by Ed Harris. It's funny.

Appaloosa brings a bit more to the western than just guns-a-blazin'
Classic law-man vs. outlaw which is standard in this type of film, but the main theme isn't shoot em' up, but more of a morals battle/whats right vs. what's the right thing to do.
You really can't beat Ed Harris and Viggo Mortensen. All around excellent acting, very well written and tossed in there is quite a bit of humor. I especially liked the the fact that they didn't really "hollywood" it up like in tombstone or other modern westerns. Very gritty, dusty and rustic feeling. Excellent film. See it!

It just shows that sometimes it takes a really moral tough guy to handle those bad guys which the average people are afraid of in order to make society safe again.Great acting all around and depth to the characters. Ed and Viggo are so sexy!
