Vintage Rodriquez!

Viva Roberto! And his wife? It was in plain words: a gas.

Violent, bloody and yes, funny at times. And Lindsey Lohan was killer, Robert DeNiro was over the top and it would seem everyone has fun making these films.

Not a chick flick, trust me, and not for your kids even at 18.

Shallow, Violent, Tasteless & Over-the-Top in the Best way Possible.

In the spirit of continuing the cheesy, bloody, over-sexualized Grind-House style genre of the 70s, Robert Rodriguez presents us "Machete." This is a satirical feature, poking fun at everyone: border patrol vigilantes, corrupt congressmen, Mexican laborers, radical conservatives, federal agents, drug lords & Lindsay Lohan. Yes, Lindsay Lohan plays a druggie with daddy issues. Lohan either knows how to take a joke really well or is so lost in Lindsay-Land that her 'hits close to home' character went way over her head.

If you've been a fan of Rodriguez's violent work thus far (ie. Not Spy Kids), go see Machete. Make sure you go into it with a sense of humor, otherwise you may be offended, to which I would say, 'good day sir.'

Machete hacked away my rib cage and gripped my heart.

Judging from the critics' reviews it has become obvious to me that even critics can not stop themselves from bringing personal politics into their reviews. Having said as much, let's get this out of the way:

This film is about illegal immigration. This film also delivers about as powerful of a message about illegal immigration as "Scream" does about how well the United States law enforcement can track down serial killers. It's satire. It's supposed to be over-the-top ridiculous and make fun of the whole situation, and if people can not understand that then I have nothing for them. Enjoy it for what it's meant to be: entertainment.

Machete is ridiculous. It's nonsensical, over-the-top, and it makes fun of everyone. It made me laugh extremely hard at some points, and made me cringe (in a good way) at some of the lines. Virtually everything that happens is cheesy (the cinematography, the plot, the acting, the action sequences) but it all comes together in this package that's extremely fun to just sit back and enjoy sans brain.

If you can leave your personal politics and your brain at the door then you will enjoy this movie. If you can not then the chances are that you won't be able to enjoy it. It's really as simple as that.

Better then Planet Terror

For me personally nothing beats a zombie flick Robert Rodriguez, pulled of another classic with Machete. The cheesy story of revenge with outlandish fighting sequences with bloody satisfaction.

Rodriguez doesn't disappoint with more then half of the actors from his previous films, Jessica Alba, Jeff Fahey, Tom Savini and many oldie but goodie faces and cameos. They come together to create his signature retro feel with modern campy spin.

As most know, this film came out at the perfect time with new laws on immigrations popping up across the south, Robert Rodriguez brought comedic and harsh reality to the screen. And because the time is perfect it allows for more in depth conversation which is why this film is so amazing from political to the cruel reality this film was one of Robert's greatest.

I can't wait to watch it again.
