Unlike their heroic counterparts on the force, desk-bound NYPD detectives Gamble (Will Ferrell) and Hoitz (Mark Wahlberg) garner no headlines as they work day to day. Gamble relishes his job as a paper pusher, but Hoitz is itching to get back on the street and make a name for himself. When a seemingly minor case turns out to be a big deal, the two cops get the opportunity to finally prove to their comrades that they have the right stuff.

I really enjoyed this movie for what it was... a parody of all the buddy cop movies/tv shows that have come out over the decades. This was incredibly well done, but I think it suffered from poor timing.
This movie was beat to the box office by Tracy Morgan and Bruce Willis' "Cop Out". You may not have noticed, but Tracy Morgan was also in THIS movie, albiet without a speaking role.
Of a more confusing nature is the TV show "The Good Guys" which started airing before this movie came out, yet has a very similar character build and plot.
Basically, this movie got beaten to it's own punchline twice this year before it even made it to theaters.
Those poor decisions aside, I really enjoyed this movie for it's take on the very suddenly saturated genre. It does the shtick well, probably better than I've seen it done elsewhere. In parody, the only true comparisons I feel you can make are with the source material and other parodies on the same source material. This has the fortune of having such recently made comparables that people wont have had time to build a emotional attachment to bias their memories. That is possibly the only blessing "The Other Guys" receive from rushing this out when they did, or lagging the release.

Does anyone actually watch the movies before they put them out to the public? This has to be one of the worse movies I have seen a a long time. I wanted it to be funny but so much for wants. I took a 13 yr old to it as well and was highly embarrased for him even though it was rated pg-13. ( and I am by no means a stickler for the ratings, my 10 yr old has seen R ratings and I didnt blink an eye to those. But this one =0

This is one of the funniest movies I watched this year. I honestly think it's Ferrel's best performance in recent years. I love the chemistry between Mark Wahlberg and Ferrel. There are funny scenes throughout the movie. This is definitely not your usual cop movie.
However, it does drag a bit too long in the end, and there are just too many sponsored ads in the movie. That takes off half star

This is a case of all the funny parts being in the previews so when they come up in the movie, you've already seen them. I did like Capt. Gene working part time in Bed,Bath, & Beyond.
