Academy Award Winner: Best Achievement in Costume Design, 2008.
Queen Elizabeth I (Cate Blanchett) faces threats to her rule from abroad and at home. Determined to restore England to Catholicism, Spain's King Philip II unleashes the might of his armada against her. Sworn to her country body and soul, Elizabeth must resist her love for charismatic seafarer Sir Walter Raleigh (Clive Owen) and instead must watch as he and her handmaiden grow closer. Finally, trusted adviser Walsingham (Geoffrey Rush) uncovers a plot involving Elizabeth's cousin, Mary Stuart.

I really wanted to like this movie a lot and there's a lot to like. It stars Cate Blanchett, Clive Owen, and Geoffrey Rush. It's about a really great period of British history. Amazing costumes. Stunning sets.
But.... after watching the movie, I feel I've been bashed over the head with a propaganda film: the movie takes its liberties with history and paints it in broad strokes.
Not my favorite Elizabeth film, but not bad over all.
