The songs of the Beatles provide the sonic framework for this musical tale of romance, war and peace. When young British worker Jude (Jim Sturgess) sets sail for the United States in search of his father, he ends up meeting carefree college student Max (Joe Anderson) and his lovely sister, Lucy (Evan Rachel Wood), along with a cast of eccentric characters. As Jude and Lucy fall for each other, their relationship is threatened by the social upheaval that accompanies the Vietnam War.

Across the Universe
Across the Universe takes some of the Beatles greatest hits and blends them with some real history during the Vietnam War and does it quite well. This movie did a great job of picking the right songs from the expansive Beatles library that really fit the movies message.
There are also some cameos of well known stars like Bono from U2, Eddie Izzard, and Selma Hayek, which probably will help this movie get a larger audience. I bet this movie will end up being a cult classic.

It's the oldest story in the world: Boy meets girl, boy falls in love with girl, girl joins radical student organization hell-bent on ending the Vietnam War, boy's passion devolves into paranoia, boy returns to work in a Liverpool shipyard. Months pass before they simultaneously arrive at a wholly unoriginal yet heartwarming conclusion: All You Need, it turns out, Is Love. (Full review)
