Mild Delight

When I went to see the movie, I had low expectations. And thanks to my low expectations, I was happy. Some scenes are pretty funny. Others are just random. And the love.. very random.

Good idea behind the plot and crazy ping pong (reminded me of Mortal Kombat). The movie could have been better though, oh well.

Overall, the movie was light-hearted and gave me a good start to my Labor Day weekend.

The noble art of ping-pong...

...or as the Chinese say, "ping-pong"...

I suspect that this movie evolved around the same thread as Snakes On A Plane, but with Chhristopher Walken as the centerpiece Awesome Celebrity instead of the Samuel L. Jackson. While Mr. Walken is awesome, I think he wasn't used to his full potential in this movie.

That being said, this is a pretty good comedy. It's got the whole quest motif, lots of references to martial arts movies, mix in some James Bond, and of course romantic tension. Sorta. Ish.

Some of the ping-pong scenes reminded me of 300. There's a lot of bullet-time. It's pretty sweet.

So yeah. If you love ping pong, or Christopher Walken, watch this movie. Or obscure tournements. Or Karate Kid.

If not, watch it anyway. It's Christopher Freaking Walken!
