Well Done

This is another one of those movies that is really simple and you aren't really meant to walk away having learned something. You're just along for the ride.

That said, this was a great ride! It may be that I just like everything with Steve Carell in it, but this was a really enjoyable movie. Sometimes with movies like this, you feel like they are laying it on a little thick when they try and make a statement about relationships, and that is certainly the case at the start of this movie. A few people wax poetic about their relationships and that is the catalyst that starts the story. Once you are past that, everything picks up.

I would definitely recommend seeing this movie at least once, but it's hardly epic enough for a 2nd viewing before it comes out on DVD.

Not brilliant, not really innovative, but funny.

Date Night is a a decent movie. It's not a fantastic movie, and it's nothing you've not seen over and over and over. Steve Carrell is more or less Michael Scott from The Office and Tina Fey is more or less Liz Lemon from 30 Rock and they're in a movie together. Chances are that they're the reason you're interested in seeing this movie so you should know that they're as funny as they always are. You should also know that they carry this film - if not for their ability to do awkward and quirky then many of the jokes would fall flat. It has a few "laugh out loud" moments but it also has some moments where nothing really seems to be happening and you just don't really care about what's going on. It's nothing horrible but the writing is clearly the weak point here.

If you're big fans of Tina Fey and/or Steve Carrell then you might as well go see the film, as you're not going to have a bad time. Just make sure you realize that the writing is not as sharp or suited to their abilities as their respective shows are. Either way it's not a bad way to waste an hour and a half, though you might want to seek somewhere else if you're on a "date night."

Date Night

Very funny from start to finish. For 30 something and married with children crowd. Plenty of teens around us not laughing at all. Teens might be embarrassed by many adult sexual innuendos. You have to know what date night is to really appreciate the adult humor.
