Colonel James M. Schoonmaker and Mon Valley Civil War Veterans Exhibit
Colonel Schoonmaker was a Civil War hero and recipient of the Medal of Honor for gallantry in the Third Battle of Winchester in 1864. In later years, he became the Chairman of the Board of the mighty Pittsburgh and Lake Erie Railroad, as well as an advocate of veteran causes and long-time president of the Pennsylvania Association of the Blind. The Schoonmaker Family has donated over sixty photos showcasing his life. The exhibit also honors all Mon Valley veterans of the Civil War.
