Though Megalodon vanished 2 million years ago, its fascinating story inspires lessons for science and shark conservation today with this family-friendly, interactive, hands-on exhibit. Visitors enter a full-size sculpture of Megalodon through massive jaws and embark on a journey through this fantastic ancient creature and the world it inhabited-- its size, structure, diet, lifespan, relatives, neighbors, evolution, extinction and the science that continues to reveal Megalodon's tale.

The Gulf Coast Exploreum invite audiences on an incredible voyage, 200 million years back in time, for a face-to-face encounter with the T-Rex of the seas in a new Imax film, Sea Rex: Journey To A Prehistoric World, premiering on Saturday, January 28, 2012 at the Exploreum's J.L. Bedsole Imax Theater in downtown Mobile.
SEA Rex: Journey To A Prehistoric World sheds light on the extraordinary prehistoric underwater world and its larger-than-life creatures, which with their daunting size and natural ability for predation, were ruling the seas 20 million years before dinosaurs roamed the earth.
The film was four years in the making and required a Usd 5 million budget. No fewer than five different Cgi and visual special effects companies collaborated under the creative leadership of N3D Land Productions to complete the 41-minute long Imax movie. The film was shot in studio and on location at various museums in Paris and London, as well as in Egypt and New Zealand to capture the aerial-, landscape- and underwater scenes.
SEA Rex: Journey To A Prehistoric World is rated "Universal" by the British Board of Film Classification (BBFC), the equivalent of a "General Audience" rating from the Mpaa. According to the BBFC, films classified as "Universal" are suitable for audiences aged 4 years and over.
The Gulf Coast Exploreum Science Center will feature the Imax film through May 6, 2012
