Andy Sweet Photolegacy Project by Gary Monroe
Andy Sweet was part of a small faction of young artist-photographers who were discovering the creative possibilities of color imagery in the mid 1970s, and his fresh aesthetic would be perfectly suited for his subsequent photographs of South Beach.
He rejected formalist theory and idea-driven imagery in favor of immediate and unmediated responses. Gary Monroe was Andy Sweet’s partner on the Miami project. Since 1984 he has photographed throughout Haiti and Florida as well as other countries.
