Desserts and Destinations 2013: Downeast Maine

Have an early lunch, but leave the desserts to us! We've been traveling quite a bit these days, and not necessarily always in search of birds. Our natural history travel programs focus on landscapes, habitats, birds, butterflies, mammals, local culture and - perhaps most importantly - on good eating. So join us virtually on our journeys, and share the bounty of our destinations! In January, Greg Lessard will take us through the hills and pastures of Italy, where he spent a week taking photographs… Show more in 2012. As for dessert, he's thinking gelato. In February, Sue MacCallum will recount her most recent visit to Downeast Maine to see the puffins of Machias Seal Island, the ruffed grouses of Campobello and, most importantly, the blueberry pie of Helen's of Machias. In March, Sally Avery will regale us with birding tales from both Ecuador and Colombia, and then share with us a local dessert. In April, Ellen and Matt Adams will virtually take us through their recent excursion to Hawaii, and then share the specialty dessert they came back with - which they're keeping a secret...
