The first of many acts to cement the college town of Athens, GA, as a hotbed of alternative music, the B-52's took their name from the Southern slang for the mile-high bouffant wigs sported by singers Kate Pierson and Cindy Wilson, a look emblematic of the band's campy, thrift-store aesthetic.

Nominally, the Police were punk rock, but that's only in the loosest sense of the term. The trio's nervous, reggae-injected pop/rock was punky, but it wasn't necessarily punk. All three members were considerably more technically proficient than the average punk or new wave band.

Oldies but goodies

I saw them in SF a few weeks ago. Yes they are getting older but they were really rockin it. If you like the B-52s you should see them live before they stop touring. The new funplex album is worth getting too

Best Thing I Did Last Summer

was to see The Police in concert. I've seen Andy Summers play before, years ago, in a really intimate venue somewhere in San Jose... up until that time I'd never seen a man make love to a guitar before. It was amazing, the things he could do. But one way or another I'd always missed the trio in concert.

They did not disappoint. Each song was better than the last. If there were a soundtrack to my life, they would definitely be it.

See them before they leave the states

It looks like the Police are heading across the ocean to continue their tour at the end of November. If their own comments on the tour are accurate this may be your last chance to see them perform live. I've been a fan for a long time, and I'd love to see them if I hadn't already missed the shows in my area.

Now that's an interesting take on how to rate a band

Sure, maybe now they aren't the hottest in concert but we're talking about The Police here.

Heck I think they'd love a Vegas musical thought, are you knocking LOVE?? I thought the skids was when opening at Circus Circus in Laughlin, NV followed by the Allegheny County Fair.

Vulcan wisdom teaches that wanting...

...is sometimes better than having. This has also been put "be careful what you ask for, you just might get it." The Police had their moment in the sun, a long time ago. After a re-union tour like this, can a Vegas musical be far behind?
